Alex G. Lee, Ph.D., helps clients understand the value of their technology and develop intellectual property strategies that advance their business goals. He combines scientific depth with extensive experience in licensing, transactions and commercialization to help clients protect innovations, evaluate opportunities and put their IP to work.
An Of Counsel attorney at Spraggins Law Group, Alex brings more than 30 years of experience spanning research, engineering, intellectual property and business strategy. His work covers a broad range of technologies and industries, including AI, quantum computing, healthcare and life sciences, telecommunications, semiconductors, cybersecurity, connected devices, blockchain, enterprise software and sustainability. That breadth enables him to assess complex technologies in context and recognize connections across fields that can inform portfolio and commercial decisions.
Alex advises on invention capture, patent portfolio development, IP strategy, licensing, valuation and technology transactions. Throughout his career, he has led innovation, IP strategy, licensing and commercialization initiatives exceeding $100 million, working with startups, Fortune 500 companies, investors, law firms and research institutions. His experience across numerous deals helps him connect the technical strengths of an innovation with the rights, commercial terms and business assumptions that shape its value.
His work in emerging technologies reflects a broader focus on commercial readiness: understanding what a technology can deliver, where its advantages lie and how to protect and commercialize them. For example, he developed an engineering-based framework for evaluating fault-tolerant quantum computing. He also manages the AI-Native Patent Practice Academy and regularly publishes and speaks internationally on intellectual property, technology and innovation strategy.
Alex earned his Ph.D. in physics from Johns Hopkins University and his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School. He is a New York attorney, a U.S. patent attorney, and a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP).
