With over 19 years of experience, Barrett focuses on building and managing global patent portfolios for defense, monetization, and litigation. He has extensive experience in IP evaluations, patent landscapes, freedom-to-operate analyses, technology transactions, licensing, and litigation support. His electrical engineering background enables him to work across a wide range of industries and technologies, including electrical power and battery systems, search and data analytics, agentic AI, semiconductor design and fabrication, cloud computing, autonomous vehicles, sensor design, medical devices, and telecommunications.
Recognized as a leading IP attorney, Barrett is ranked nationally in the IAM Patent 1000 and named an IAM Strategy 300 Global Leader by Intellectual Asset Management (IAM). He is frequently invited to speak on emerging technologies, patent strategy and other topics at the intersection of intellectual property and business.
Before founding Spraggins Law Group PLLC, Barrett was a founding partner of Kennedy Lenart Spraggins LLP and previously served as a partner at Biggers & Ohanian. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University and a Juris Doctor from Florida State University College of Law, where he served as executive editor of the Florida State University Business Review and a member of the Journal of Land Use and Environmental Law.
Outside of his legal practice, Barrett enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and two children.
